MEET THE OWNER
Kimberly Stafford Reed
"I wasn't just driving a bus, I was helping care for a community."
For over 25 years, I have been honored to serve children and families as a school bus driver — a role I never imagined would become my life’s work. What started as “just a job” quickly became a calling. I fell in love not only with the work, but with the children themselves.
I noticed when a child didn’t show up at the bus stop. I worried when they were absent too long. I paid attention when someone didn’t have a coat, seemed withdrawn, or just needed a little extra care. I wasn’t just responsible for transportation — I became a safe, consistent adult presence in their lives. To many of the children I served, I wasn’t just the bus driver — I was an auntie, a protector, a guide, and yes, the one who would safely pull the bus over and restore order when needed.
When the pandemic hit, everything changed. Like many industries, transportation faced major staffing challenges. I stepped into a recruitment role to help keep things running, not knowing that this temporary step would prepare me for something much bigger. In that role, I had the opportunity to learn leadership, operations, and what it truly means to manage people with integrity, humility, and care.
That season taught me how to lead — not just by directing, but by serving. I watched a leader who showed me how to handle people well, how to build trust, and how to do the work alongside your team. I had no idea at the time that I was being prepared to become a business owner myself.
Eventually, I was able to purchase my first school bus. One bus became three. Three became seventeen. And with that growth came responsibility, challenges, sacrifices, and lessons that shaped me deeply. Building this business was not easy. There were seasons of uncertainty, financial strain, and moments when giving up felt easier than pressing forward. But my commitment never changed: the children always came first.
I stayed because I believed in what I was building. I stayed because families trusted me. I stayed because schools needed reliable, caring transportation. And I stayed because I wanted to prove — to myself and others — that I could build something rooted in excellence, fairness, and heart.
Top Shelf Transportation Service was born from that journey. It exists because I believe that transporting children and families is not just about getting from point A to point B — it’s about safety, dignity, consistency, and care.
